National Clarinet Day

Every November 16, clarinetists everywhere mark National Clarinet Day — a celebration of the instrument's extraordinary range, from the warmth of its lowest chalumeau register to the brilliance of its upper clarion. For The Tempo Tantrum Players, it's a natural moment to spotlight what makes the clarinet choir format so compelling: a single instrument family, played by musicians spanning passionate amateurs to retired professionals, capable of the full emotional and dynamic spectrum of a symphony orchestra. Whether you've been playing for six months or sixty years, National Clarinet Day is an invitation to pick the instrument back up, listen to a favorite recording, or simply notice the clarinet's voice the next time it appears in the music around you.

LGBTQ+ musicians and allies from across the Pride Bands family are heading to Seattle for the 2027 Pride Bands Alliance Conference, themed There’s No Place Like Home. It’s a summer of music, visibility, and community, with performance tracks for every kind of player: concert band, marching/pep band, color guard, jazz band, symphony orchestra, percussion ensemble, and chamber music.

The main event is two full concert bands, the Emerald Band and the Sapphire Band, performing on Saturday, July 31, 2027, at Benaroya Hall’s Taper Auditorium. No audition is required. The programs center works by women, LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and historically underrepresented composers, including world premieres of newly commissioned pieces.
